Knowledge That Makes Cents: Dallas ISD Students Gain Real-World Financial Skills Through Truist Partnership

(Dallas, TX) — On April 2, more than 250 Dallas ISD students gathered at Arcadia Park Annex for a hands-on learning experience designed to prepare them for real-life financial decisions.

Through the Truist Financial Foundations Program and Dallas ISD Workforce Development, students engaged in an interactive day of financial literacy training—building skills that will serve them far beyond the classroom.

This event marked a meaningful milestone: Truist Bank’s first investment with the Dallas Education Foundation, demonstrating a shared commitment to equipping students with practical knowledge for lifelong success.

From Learning to Real Life

The day combined digital coursework with in-person collaboration, allowing students to move beyond theory and into application.

Students rotated through financial literacy modules and small-group discussions led by Truist teammates, who shared personal insights and real-world experiences. The program was designed to make financial concepts tangible—helping students understand budgeting, saving, credit, and decision-making.

As outlined in the event program, students completed lessons, participated in guided discussions, and reflected on what they learned before receiving a Certificate of Achievement to mark their accomplishment.

Interactive elements—including activities like financial literacy games and peer discussions—kept students engaged while reinforcing key concepts in a meaningful way.

Powered by Partnership

Truist’s $25,000 investment supports both financial literacy programming and broader student success initiatives, including Call Me MISTER—a program focused on developing future educators.

With 40–60 Truist volunteers on-site, students had the opportunity to connect directly with professionals who brought financial concepts to life through conversation, mentorship, and encouragement.

This level of engagement reflects what makes partnerships like this so impactful: not just funding, but time, presence, and shared purpose.

Student-Centered Impact

At the heart of the day were the students.

From the moment they arrived, they were immersed in a learning experience that combined independence with support—completing modules at their own pace while engaging in meaningful conversations with mentors.

Students walked away not only with new knowledge, but with confidence:

  • Confidence in understanding how money works
  • Confidence in making informed financial decisions
  • Confidence in their ability to plan for the future

Looking Ahead

The Truist Financial Foundations Program represents more than a single event—it is part of a growing effort to expand financial literacy opportunities across Dallas ISD.

With strong community partners like Truist, Dallas Education Foundation can bring real-world learning experiences directly to students—preparing them for success in college, careers, and life.

As this partnership grows, so does the opportunity to reach more students, deepen impact, and ensure every student has access to the tools they need to thrive.

Thank You, Truist

We are proud to welcome Truist as a new partner and are grateful for their investment in Dallas ISD students.

Together, we are building knowledge that lasts—and creating opportunities that change lives.
