The Dallas Mavericks, Dallas ISD, and the Dallas Education Foundation teamed up this summer to help students stay engaged in learning and build strong literacy skills during the months away from the classroom.
Through the Mavericks’ Slam Dunk Into Summer Learning initiative, thousands of Dallas ISD elementary students received books and educational resources designed to keep reading and learning at the forefront throughout the summer break.
Thanks to a $100,000 investment from the Dallas Mavericks, the program provided:
- 17,500 books
- 2,800 flashcard sets
- 13 Dallas ISD elementary schools served
- 6,900 students impacted
The initiative focused on putting high-quality learning materials directly into the hands of students, helping families create opportunities for learning at home while encouraging a lifelong love of reading.
Research consistently shows that access to books and educational resources during the summer months can help students maintain academic progress and reduce learning loss. By providing students with their own books and learning tools, the program empowers children to continue exploring new ideas, strengthening literacy skills, and building confidence as learners.
