A student-led campus tour, thoughtful conversations, and a personal story about the possibilities of education made Judge Clay Jenkins’ Principal for a Day visit to Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy a meaningful experience for the school community.
The visit began with students leading a campus tour and sharing what makes their school special. Their knowledge, confidence, and professional introductions reflected the pride they take in their campus and the leadership skills they are developing through their Dallas ISD education.
During a student roundtable, scholars asked Judge Jenkins thoughtful questions and heard about his upbringing and experience as the first person in his family to attend college. His willingness to share his journey created opportunities for students to recognize connections to their own lives and consider the possibilities ahead.
Judge Jenkins also addressed students during the school’s lyceum, connecting his message with the sense of brotherhood and shared purpose at Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy. Throughout the visit, students had opportunities to practice leadership, exchange ideas, and engage directly with a community leader.
Principal for a Day brings community members into Dallas ISD schools to experience campus life and build a deeper understanding of the students and educators shaping the district. At Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy, the day highlighted student voice, campus pride, and the value of meaningful community connections.
The Dallas Education Foundation thanks Judge Clay Jenkins for sharing his time and personal story with students and for his support as a Lifetime of Learning sponsor. His generosity helps DEF support opportunities for learning and student success across Dallas ISD.
