For students across South Dallas and Fair Park, summer became a season of learning, exploration, and connection through the RCS Free Summer Enrichment Program.
Created to address the community’s need for accessible summer education, the program provides Dallas ISD students with high-quality academic and enrichment opportunities in a safe, trusted environment—all at no cost to their families.
The RCS Summer Enrichment Program was first piloted in 2024, serving 40 elementary students in prekindergarten through fifth grade one day each week. As the only free summer program of its kind in the area, interest quickly exceeded available capacity, demonstrating the need for more barrier-free opportunities for local students.
In summer 2026, the program expanded to serve 120 elementary and middle school students from the Lincoln and Madison feeder patterns. Students participated in full-day programming two days each week for one month, giving more young people the opportunity to continue learning while school was out.
Each day combined academic support with creative, recreational, and life-skills activities. Students strengthened their reading and math skills, explored STEM concepts, participated in music and dance, enjoyed sports and recreation, and learned about nutrition through cooking classes and interactive demonstrations. Inspiring field trips also gave students opportunities to learn beyond the classroom and experience new places, ideas and possibilities.
The program’s whole-child approach extended beyond academics. Activities focused on self-esteem, mental health and wellness helped students build confidence, develop healthy habits and form positive relationships with their peers and instructors.
For working parents, the program provided the reassurance that their children had access to a safe, engaging and productive place during the summer. For students, it offered something equally important: the chance to discover new interests, stay connected to learning and enter the new school year feeling prepared and encouraged.
Programs like RCS Summer Enrichment help prevent summer learning loss while addressing the opportunity gaps that can limit access to educational experiences. By removing cost as a barrier, RCS ensures that a family’s income does not determine whether a child can participate in meaningful summer programming.
The program’s growth from 40 students in its pilot year to 120 students in 2026 reflects both the demand within the community and the impact that becomes possible when students are given equitable access to learning and enrichment.
Through academics, the arts, wellness, recreation and hands-on exploration, the RCS Summer Enrichment Program is helping South Dallas students build skills, confidence and excitement for the future—one memorable summer experience at a time.
