DALLAS – May 20, 2022 – There was much to celebrate at College Signing Day at the Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet at Townview on Friday, May 13. The school jumped 11 spots in the most recent US News and World Report high school rankings, making the Law Magnet the 48th best public high school in the nation with a rank of sixth in the State.
Principal Garet Feimster referenced the honor during his remarks and told his seniors and their families, “This is your accomplishment. You did this.” What the students of the Class of 2022 have also done is garner admission to prestigious universities across the country while earning over $22.5m in scholarships.
The Dallas Education Foundation was privileged to participate in the momentous day by presenting $10,000 scholarships to two amazing students who were named the Liza Farrow-Gillespie Intrepid Young Woman Scholarship recipients for 2022:
Sritanvi Bulusu and Jocelyn Castanon. Dr. Alan Farrow-Gillespie was on hand to help with the presentation and say a few words about his intrepid wife, Liza.Sritanvi is headed to Georgetown University this fall and plans to major in International Politics, Justice and Peace Studies, and Romance Languages. After which, she will head to law school with the eventual goal of working for the United Nations High Committee on Refugees or Amnesty International as an international human rights lawyer.
Jocelyn is a future Texas Longhorn and has experienced first-hand the injustices Hispanic small-business owners experience such as not being able to receive full payment for services rendered to having little recourse in dispute cases. She knows she can affect change by one day becoming a contract lawyer. Jocelyn says that after receiving her law degree, “I will work for companies that have similar values to the change I want to bring.”
The event was highlighted by the attendance of Jan Sanders, wife of the school’s namesake the late Judge Barefoot Sanders. Mrs. Sanders, along with Scott Chase, former and retired partner at Farrow-Gillespie Heath Witter LLP, presented to the school a courtroom drawing of Judge Sanders in the case of US vs. Oswalt.

About the Liza Farrow-Gillespie
The Liza Farrow-Gillespie Intrepid Young Woman Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Liza Farrow-Gillespie. Among her many accomplishments, Ms. Farrow-Gillespie was a professional musician and singer, co-founded one of the first woman-owned law firms in North Texas, and along with her husband, Dr. Alan Farrow-Gillespie, circumnavigated the globe on a 54-foot sailboat, crossing three oceans and making landfall on six continents and 55 countries. Ms. Farrow-Gillespie, who passed on July 3, 2020 after a long battle with ovarian cancer, will forever be remembered as Intrepid.
