Students at Tolbert Elementary School have a new way to discover their next favorite book, thanks to a new book vending machine supported by Pilot Companies in partnership with the Dallas Education Foundation.
The unveiling brought together students, school leaders, parents, grandparents, and community partners for a celebration of literacy and student success. Beyond introducing the new machine, the ceremony reflected a school community committed to helping every scholar thrive.
Principal Smith-Bluitt, Ms. Mendy, Ms. Lucio, Executive Director Smith, and Tolbert’s students and families helped make the occasion meaningful. The strong turnout of parents and grandparents was especially inspiring—a reminder of the encouragement and support surrounding Tolbert’s young learners.
For the Dallas Education Foundation, expanding access to books is an investment in students’ futures. A book can spark curiosity, introduce a new perspective, and help a young reader build confidence. This new addition to Tolbert brings more opportunities for those discoveries into the school day.
The celebration also highlighted the power of sustained community partnership. Pilot Companies’ support reflects a long-term commitment to literacy and student success, helping DEF expand access to books for Dallas ISD students.
