The Dallas Education Foundation (DEF), in partnership with Microsoft and the Next Step Initiative, once again brought Dallas ISD students to Microsoft’s campus for an inspiring day of hands-on learning, career exploration, and future-focused experiences during the 2026 Microsoft Student Day.
The event welcomed Dallas ISD middle school students from across the district for a unique opportunity to explore the world of technology, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, innovation, and personal branding alongside Microsoft professionals and community leaders.
Led by Bernard Smith Jr., Senior Cloud Engineer at Microsoft and founder of the Next Step Initiative, the day was designed to expose students to careers and possibilities they may not otherwise encounter. Microsoft is helping them envision themselves as future leaders in STEM and technology fields.
Throughout the day, students participated in interactive sessions, toured Microsoft’s innovation spaces, engaged with technology demonstrations, and connected directly with professionals working in AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and engineering. Students also learned about wellness, leadership, and the importance of building confidence and a positive personal brand as they prepare for future academic and career opportunities.
“Exposure creates opportunity,” said Bernard Smith Jr. “When students can see themselves in these spaces and interact directly with professionals who look like them and believe in them, it can completely change how they view their future.”
The Dallas Education Foundation continues to connect Dallas ISD students with transformational opportunities that expand career awareness, inspire curiosity, and accelerate student success.
The event reflects DEF’s ongoing commitment to building meaningful partnerships with organizations like Microsoft that help prepare Dallas ISD students for success in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Together, we are helping students take the next step toward brighter futures.
