Dallas ISD Celebrates Career Exploration Mobile Lab Ribbon Cutting at Comstock Middle School

(Dallas, TX) — Dallas ISD, in partnership with the Moody Foundation and the Dallas Education Foundation, celebrated the ribbon cutting of the district’s second Career Exploration Mobile Lab at E.B. Comstock Middle School — a transformative initiative designed to bring hands-on career exploration opportunities directly to middle school students across Dallas ISD.

The celebration highlighted a shared commitment to preparing students for bright futures by exposing them to career pathways and workforce opportunities at an early age. Thanks to the generous support of the Moody Foundation and Dallas Education Foundation, the mobile lab will help ensure that every Dallas ISD middle school student has access to engaging, innovative career exploration experiences.

“This Mobile Lab is truly changing trajectories for students,” said Emily Davis, Grants and Programs Manager of the Dallas Education Foundation. “We can’t wait to see all the future careers our students will pursue.”

The event featured an enthusiastic welcome from Comstock Middle School students and staff, including performances and participation from student ambassadors, cheerleaders, athletes, and the school band. Principal Dr. Alisa McCowan was recognized for her leadership and advocacy for Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs and for hosting the special celebration.

Dallas ISD’s Career & Technical Education team, including Oswaldo Alvarenga and Janel Humphries, was also honored for bringing the vision of two mobile labs to life. Operating the labs districtwide is a major logistical undertaking, but their innovation and dedication are helping students make more informed decisions about their futures.

The event also recognized the continued support of the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees, including Trustee Dan Micciche, along with Chief Huitt-Powell and Dallas ISD School Leadership for championing initiatives that expand opportunities for students across the district.

Students from Lincoln High School and Humanities/Communications Magnet Culinary and CI East programs volunteered during the celebration, helping make the event memorable for attendees while showcasing their own developing career skills.

The Career Exploration Mobile Lab represents Dallas ISD’s ongoing investment in innovation, workforce readiness, and equitable access to career-connected learning experiences for all students.

Photos from the ribbon-cutting celebration are available for download, and a highlight video from the event is coming shortly.
