Books in Bloom at Botello: New Book Vending Machine Inspires a Love of Reading

A love of reading is growing stronger than ever at Felix G. Botello Personalized Learning Elementary School, thanks to the unveiling of a new book vending machine made possible by support from NEC and the Dallas Education Foundation.

The celebration brought together students, educators, community partners, and supporters for a joyful event centered on literacy, creativity, and student success. From the moment guests arrived, it was clear that reading is a cornerstone of the Botello community.

The ceremony featured a warm welcome from Principal Rodriguez and special remarks from campus leaders, including Ms. Cook, Ms. McClendon, and Dr. Garduno. Students played a leading role throughout the event, showcasing the school’s commitment to literacy through music, reading, and artistic expression.

One highlight of the celebration was a performance by the Botello Band, who delighted attendees with their rendition of Pete the Cat. Student guest readers Joaquin, Ariadne, and Kane also shared their love of reading, demonstrating the confidence and enthusiasm that literacy programs help cultivate.

Guests learned about the creative ways Botello scholars earn books and celebrate reading achievements throughout the school year. Student artwork and heartfelt thank-you notes displayed during the event served as a powerful reminder of the impact of access to books on young learners.

The new book vending machine will provide students with an exciting opportunity to select and own books of their choice, helping foster lifelong reading habits while making literacy rewarding and accessible.

The Dallas Education Foundation extends its deepest gratitude to NEC for its continued partnership and investment in Dallas ISD students. Through initiatives like book vending machines, NEC is helping expand access to books and create opportunities for students to discover the joy of reading.

As students lined up to explore the new machine, one thing was clear: books are truly in bloom at Botello. Thanks to the dedication of educators, community partners, and supporters, more students will have the opportunity to build their personal libraries, strengthen their reading skills, and discover new worlds through books.

The Dallas Education Foundation is proud to celebrate this exciting milestone and looks forward to seeing the positive impact the book vending machine will have on Botello students for years to come.
