(Dallas, TX) —The Dallas Education Foundation (DEF) is proud to celebrate two exceptional Dallas ISD seniors as the newest recipients of the Liza Farrow-Gillespie Intrepid Young Woman Scholarship—a prestigious award supporting young women pursuing careers in law.
Selected for their leadership, determination, and commitment to making a difference, this year’s honorees represent the very best of Dallas ISD’s future legal minds.
Honoring Intrepid Young Women Pursuing Law
This year’s scholarship recipients, Emily Muñoz and Hannah Castillo of Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet, embody the courage, intellect, and resilience that define the legacy of Liza Farrow-Gillespie.
The scholarship, valued at $10,000 and distributed over four years, provides critical support as recipients begin their college journeys and pursue careers in the legal field. Like previous scholars, Emily and Hannah have demonstrated not only academic excellence, but also a passion for advocacy and a commitment to using their voices to create meaningful change.
The Liza Farrow-Gillespie Intrepid Young Woman Scholarship honors the life and legacy of a trailblazing attorney, musician, and adventurer who broke barriers as a co-founder of one of North Texas’s first woman-owned law firms. Her legacy continues to inspire young women to lead boldly and pursue paths that challenge the status quo.
A Celebration of Potential and Purpose
The scholarship presentation, held at Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet, was a powerful reminder of the impact that community support and mentorship can have on students’ futures. Surrounded by educators, family members, and scholarship champions, Emily and Hannah were recognized not only for their achievements, but for the promise they carry into the next chapter of their lives.
Through scholarships like this, DEF and its partners continue to invest in students who are ready to lead, serve, and shape the future of their communities.
Investing in the Next Generation of Leaders
At its core, the Dallas Education Foundation is committed to removing barriers and expanding opportunities for Dallas ISD students. Scholarships like the Liza Farrow-Gillespie award are more than financial support—they are a vote of confidence in the next generation of leaders, advocates, and changemakers.
As Emily and Hannah prepare to embark on their college journeys, they carry with them not only the support of this scholarship, but the belief of an entire community that sees their potential and stands behind their success.
Congratulations to our newest Liza Scholars—we can’t wait to see where your journey leads.
