Microsoft Student Day: A Glimpse Into the Future for Dallas ISD Middle Schoolers

150 students. 6 schools. One inspiring day at Microsoft.

In a powerful collaboration between Microsoft’s NextStep Initiative and the Dallas Education Foundation, middle school students from across Dallas ISD embarked on an unforgettable journey to Microsoft’s campus for “Microsoft Student Day,” offering students a firsthand look at the world of STEM careers.

The event welcomed students from D.A. Hulcy STEAM Middle School, Royce West Leadership Academy, Raul Quintanilla Sr. Middle School, Hector P. Garcia Middle School, J.P. Starks Math, Science and Technology Vanguard, and Billy Earl Dade Middle School. The goal? To ignite a passion for science, technology, engineering, and math by showing students what’s possible when imagination meets innovation.

“Microsoft Student Day is a day where students can tour the campus,” explained Jazzy, a Microsoft employee. “We expose them to different STEM-related careers and activities. We take them through hands-on workshop sessions, career panels, and let them engage with us, the employees, so they can understand what we do here.”

For many students, the experience was eye-opening. “It made me think about becoming an engineer,” one student shared. Another added, “This experience might help me become a software developer.”

Teachers were equally enthusiastic about the event’s impact. Christina Moore, a teacher at J.P. Starks, expressed her hopes for her students: “I would love to see my students become leaders in a corporation such as Microsoft.”

The Dallas Education Foundation played a crucial role in making the event a reality. “They’ve supported the NextStep Initiative here at Microsoft by being a great partner and helping us fund these events,” said Bernard, a Microsoft employee. “That way, we can continue to do this each and every year to bring resources to Dallas ISD.”

Emily Davis, representing the Dallas Education Foundation, echoed the sentiment: “Thank you, Microsoft NextStep Initiative, for partnering with Dallas Education Foundation to bring this amazing experience to our students!”

As the day came to a close, students left with more than just memories—they left with inspiration, new dreams, and a clearer vision of their future. “It has been fun. It has been a great experience,” one student said with a smile.

With continued support from Microsoft and the Dallas Education Foundation, the future for these young learners looks brighter than ever.
